Player Obligations/Dress Code
Player Obligations
- The pairings will normally be available no later than the Tuesday before league play at noon on the weekly starting time web page. Often pairings will be posted sometime Monday, which will also hopefully serve as a reminder that if you aren't playing to let us know, so I can alter the pairings before Wednesday.
- If you are not going to be playing any particular week, please let the Secretary or President know as soon as possible, no later than by noon on Monday if at all possible. The medium is your choice, but be sure your message is received. Preferred method of notification for Secretary is via email.
- Honor your commitment to this League - you were told when you joined you were expected to show up each week, excepting health, family and work issues. Yes it is ok to take a family vacation or two, but to go AWOL is just inconsiderate (see next bullet).
- If you cannot reach the President/Secretary or it is too late, call the course, advise them you'll be absent and tell them your pairing. NOTE: If you remain absent with no contact after 2 weeks you are subject to being archived and removed from the distribution list without notice or further ado. We are all adults and it isn't the President or Secretary's job to baby-sit and try and contact people that refuse to send notice/keep in contact.
- If you arrive earlier you may be moved up if there are no shows so please be somewhat flexible.
- Go to the first or 10th tee (depending on which side we're playing) and organize with your playing partners. With no starters it is your responsibility to know which group/who your playing partners are.
- Play ready golf.
- If you are the first name on the score card, then you are the designated score keeper. You are responsible for having a card and filling in the names.
- As the score keeper, please write legibly enough so the secretary can read the names, scores and any competitions! Use last name and at least first initial and include handicaps in the handicap column on the card. The most important thing for the scorekeeper is to legibly write down the individual scores on each hole. I don't care about the addition. The computer will correctly total everything up and compute the points.
Immediately after playing:
- The score keeper adds up the score and competition score (if applicable/not machine calculated).
- The score keeper signs and ensures the score card is attested. Incomplete cards will NOT be processed. If you didn't finish a hole and want to still be eligible for points, then record an X for that hole. Cards with holes not filled in (i.e. left blank) will not be scored. Don't be so concerned about the addition (the computer will correctly calculate the totals). Just make sure the individual hole scores are all recorded and legible.
- Make sure I (Chris) get your group's scorecard - if you must leave immediately after your round, pass the card back to a following group. I can't score your round if I don't have your card!
General League Procedures
- The league is consists of one division which greatly simplifies things.
- Everyone will play the white tees.
- Every effort will be made to keep the assigned groups intact as much as possible. Due to no shows however it is often impossible. As no shows occur, the empty slots will be filled in from players with later starting times. Since this is reality it pays to show up earlier than your scheduled starting time.
- Requests to play with friends or other special groupings will not be honored. Since this is a league based on round robin competition, it is only fair to all the participants to keep the pairings as "round robin" as possible. While I realize some people aren't really concerned with points, or winning, "playing with your buddies", isn't fair to those who are.
EXCEPTION: Those not still in contention for points during the last 3 weeks of each half are randomly paired and shuffled. If you are not in contention and want to go ahead and play with your buddies during the last 3 weeks of each half, then this is acceptable.
- NOTE: In the last 3 weeks of each half of the season, the pairings are done by points for those in contention to win the points competition. It is important that if you are in contention, that you play in your assigned group. If you are unable to make your starting time due to work related obligations, you must notify an officer so the group time can be moved down. If you fail to do so in advance, you will forfeit any points you may earn towards the title.
League Champions Each half of the season there is a champion determined by the best 7/10 point scores during the half. After the 2nd half, assuming there are different winners each half, half winners will have a playoff against each other. The playoff will be as follows:
For any questions or comments about playoff format, schedule, or setup of the actual playoff contact the league president Chris DeBussy (Cell Phone: 253 951-4588).
- Will occur sometime after the 2nd half winners are decided, with enough time to allow trophies to be engraved before the field day.
- Will be 18 hole stroke play format with handicap at our home course (Auburn).
- Will be played in the presence of a league officer who will be responsible to make any rulings or resolve any disputes. It is recommended this person be knowledgeable in the rules and carry a rule book, and a copy of the decisions of the rules of golf for reference.
- In the event of a tie at the end of 18 holes, a sudden death playoff will occur. This will be starting back on hole number 1 and continuing until there is a winner.
- The President will be responsible for actually negotiating/setting up the playoff.
All players must dress adhering to any dress code present at the golf course we are playing be it normal league or for one of our tournaments. Auburn is much more relaxed in this respect than some courses we may play - I realize that "good taste" is highly subjective, but we're all pretty savvy guys, right? Denim is OK at Auburn, but do check course websites for league tournaments.
